What the Nexodus Name Means, and How I Lead Because of It

People ask me about our name all the time. Is it a tech word? A made up brand? The answer is simpler, and it is the reason I built this company the way I did. Today we shared the story behind the Nexodus name in a press release. I want to tell it a little more personally here. TWO WORDS, ONE JOURNEY Nexodus joins two words. A nexus is a hub, the place where people and paths connect. An exodus is a journey out of where you are toward something better. Put them together and you get the next exodus. One of the oldest stories people tell is about a group leaving the past behind for a promised land. What I love about that story is this: getting out took one night. Getting the past out of the people took a whole generation. Freedom was the first step. The promised land was the goal. That is leadership. Changing your circumstances is often the easy part. Changing your mindset is the real work, because the hardest cage to escape is the one in your own head. WHERE IT STARTED I founded this company in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2018. We started in residential cleaning under a different name and grew into commercial, multi unit residential and federal work. Today Nexodus Clean serves clients through a nationwide network of independent provider partners. Along the way, one company became three. I call it the Nexodus trifecta: • Nexodus Clean, our facility services company. • Nexodus BPO, our parent company, at nexodus.biz. • Nexodus Institute, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, at nexodusinstitute.org. Each one carries the same idea: help people move from where they are to where they are meant to be. THE FORMULA I LEAD BY Before Nexodus, I spent years in corporate leadership, leading more than 100 leaders. What I learned there, and what I practice here, comes down to a formula: A² + B² = C². Why squared? Because to finish a square, you have to travel all the way around it. You cannot lead with a quality you have only practiced on one side. A²: AFFIRM AND ATTRACT A leader has to be affirmed in who they are first. You work on yourself before you lead anyone else, and then you affirm the people around you. Leaders also attract. Think of a magnet: you meet people where they are while staying true to who you are. People should follow you because they want to, not because they have to. You never get someone's best from have to. B²: BOUNDARIES AND BUILD A leader cannot be available for everything. Boundaries and standards protect the team and the work. And people should grow because of your leadership. That growth happens through practice, every week, on every site. C²: COMMITMENT AND COMPOUND When people are affirmed, held to standards and built up, they commit. Committed people do not just produce a one time result. Their results compound. The company grows, and so does each person's sense of what they are capable of. Leaders build leaders, and that is the legacy. A legacy only stands when there are results behind it.
